"Angelica's Dream" Canvas

We know that she is beautiful, cunning, gifted with magical arts, and a lover of freedom above all else. She is princess Angelica, legendary character present in the medieval chivalric romances Orlando in Love and The Frenzy of Orlando, desired by all knights and for whom Orlando will literally go crazy. He will even fight against his own cousin Rinaldo, a scene that we painted in the "Lion of Saint Mark" Canvas.
This is a gouache painting, made exclusively for our Paladins collection (see Related Products below).

Angelica is not so much a woman as an ideal, which is why she exists only as a destination that fades away, as a dream that fades, a mirage, an obsession for the many Christian and pagan knights who clash in these poems. But we are in the Renaissance and both authors Boiardo and Ariosto are not so much concerned with sanctifying the exploits of the knights, as with also telling their weaknesses, their loss for love - the most necessary and painful of the traps in which man "entangles his wings". The knights even escape from battle in pursuit of her, and their return to the mission ultimately represents a return to oneself.
This is why we chose with this painting to catch the dimension of the dream, as Angelica herself is a symbol and a metaphor of love - All in the midst of delightful magic, flying hippogriffs, fairy swords and prodigious fountains. We chose gouache for this particular painting to better reproduce the soft and faded nuances of dreams, creating a delicate scene that will enchant and relax the viewer.

These canvases feature gallery quality prints, with vibrant colors and built to last. They are folded around a lightweight but thick frame, museum grade. Printed with acid free ink, they also feature a scratch-resistant UV coating that will make them last without fading or chipping. The canvases are already assembled and are ready to hang. All canvas prints are shipped in fitted packaging, engineered to prevent damages and dents during transportation.

These canvases are wrapped around the frame and feature black borders on all four sides, for a modern look that also matches the other paintings of the Paladins collection.
