In this authentic Medieval illumination, a winged hippocampus is very pleased with herself and the crown she is about to wear. Her elegance and pose are an unmistakable sign of royalty, in fact this crest was used with pride by a noble Italian family during the Middle Ages. Interestingly, their last name, Vani, meant "The Vane ones" in Italian.
