"Three Kittens" Framed Poster

The history:

An inscription on the original lithograph reads, "Purchased by my Dear Mother, Mrs. Summer Merryfield in 1836 at Dalton Mass". We can imagine Mrs. Summer, a Victorian lady who must have loved cats, purchasing this lithograph to decorate her home, and as a piece of art to later pass down to her daughter. This, in fact, was not any lithograph, and it didn't come cheap. It was a Kellogg & Comstock's lithograph, top quality for the time, and destined to be a rare print - due to the very short life of the printing company. But chances are, Mrs. Summer didn't know anything about the actual value of her art. She just liked the kittens.

The Kellogg brothers were known for detailed, often hand-colored lithographs, and their works captured American life. Their prints provide valuable visual records of mid-19th century American culture, showing societal values like the importance of temperance or mourning, the expansion to the West, and historical events like the Gold Rush.

• To attach hooks on 24″ × 36″ frames, simply place each of the mounting hooks 1 inch (2.5 cm) from corners when hanging horizontally.
