"Portrait of a Lady" Stretched Canvas

This iconic portrait is the Mona Lisa of cats, with its enigmatic expression, magnetic gaze, and the atmospheric illusionism. It will become the focal point of your wall, and it looks fantastic when matched with the other paintings in our Cats collection (see Related Products below). 
We worked hard to digitally restore this painting that had darkened over time, was full of speckles, and the colors were faded. Now you can enjoy vibrant colors, depth of field, and a printing quality that lasts. This is the only fully restored version on the market, with extended canvas to seamlessly wrap around the frame.

This portrait was originally painted in 1870 by Frederick Dielman (1847–1935), a talented German-American figure painter who was also elected president of the American National Academy of Design. The portrait shows a cat wearing an Elizabethan, 17th century lace ruff collar, with a small bell as a pendant. It was originally part of a couple of paintings titled "Uncle Tobey and the widow", where Uncle Tobey was a dog wearing a dignified male lace collar. The humor of this composition is masterful, as Dielman mimics the typical human portraits of the past, with their monumental poses, only that they are animals. He was a pioneer in this idea that today has become widespread in the art world. After his paintings, wealthy people started commissioning portraits of their pets.

This matte canvas comes with back hanging already included, has a thickness of 0.75 inches, and the frame is made with profile radial pine that is ethically sourced from renewable forests. The special proprietary coating guarantees a vibrant print that will not fade overtime.
