Description
With this ceramic mug you can enjoy your coffee or tea, and decorate your house at the same time. Its medieval design adds a touch of retro-chic anywhere you place it, plus it’s BPA and Lead-free, microwave & dishwasher-safe, and made of durable ceramic.
The design comes from an authentic medieval manuscript belonging to Queen Isabella of Spain. Among the flowers, a figure sits in the corner while looking into a mirror. She is not just a pretty maid with a floral crown, but she hides a secret as her little tail reveals. She is Melusine, the serpent-woman, and her story has become legend throughout Europe.
When Count Raymondin of Poitiers proposes to her, Melusine lays down a condition that he must never see her on a Saturday. For ten years Raymondin keeps his promise, and Melusine bears him ten sons while using her powers to give her husband wealth and political influence. However, Raymondin eventually grows suspicious of Melusine never attending Mass on a Saturday. He breaks his promise and peeks into her chamber, where he sees Melusine bathing in half-serpent form. He keeps his transgression a secret, until one of their now-adult sons murders his brother. In front of his court, the grieving Raymondin blames Melusine and calls her a "serpent." She then assumes the form of a dragon and flies off, never to be seen again. The legend says that she returns only at night to nurse her two youngest children, who are still infants.
