Description
Bring an important piece of history into your living room, with this pillow inspired by the famous Battle of Lepanto, the largest naval battle in Western history fought entirely between rowing vessels.
We referenced original Medieval manuscripts for the creation of this dynamic and classic design, down to minute details like the Queen giving advice (or perhaps a command) to her husband, the King, who carefully listens.
The front of the pillow features majestic galleys bearing the flags of their nations and powered by hundreds of rowing soldiers, while archers on raised decks defend their kings. On the back side of the pillow we find the open wavy sea where the fleet sailed, making it possible to use these two sides interchangeably - or simply get two pillows to display both sides at the same time!
The design shows how, for the first time in history, the flags of the old Republic of Venice, Spain, Austria, and many other European nations typically at war which each other, sailed together. Their secret coalition was named "Fleet of the Holy League" because its purpose was to defend Christian Europe from the expansion of the Ottoman Empire.
On 7 October 1571, the Fleet of the Holy League won over the Mediterranean, shaping the Western world as we know it today. This design narrates the story of that epic battle.
