Description
This will become your go-to scarf every time you want to add a touch of effortless elegance to any look. It is one of our favorite products at MedievalMade!
The exclusive design features a cascade of "millefiori" (thousand flowers), a type of glass mosaic invented in the old Republic of Venice. After taking a trip to Venice and witnessing the production of millefiori firsthand, we decided to meticulously reproduce their colors and shapes for the creation of this pattern. A closer look will reveal hundreds of different "glass flowers" that pop against the elegant black background.
Throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, this technique was a state secret of the Republic of Venice, along with many other techniques like the production of crystal and Venetian mirrors. The glassmaking guild guarded its secrets so closely that anyone who divulged them faced the prospect of death. To assure its secrecy, in 1291 Venice moved all glass production to the small island of Murano (under the official reason to prevent fires in the city), and special laws prevented glassblowers and their families to ever leave the Republic. However, this limitation of freedom came with great rewards: glassmakers were granted a privileged social status, for example were allowed to wear swords, and even enjoyed immunity from prosecution by the Venetian state. Not to mention that their children were admitted to marry into Venice's most prominent families.
